The Smartwatch versus Fitness Tracker debate is raging! With the recent amazing improvements in smartwatch technology and the same too for fitness trackers, everybody wants one or the other, but we don’t know which is best? Trackers are usually cheaper, but should we spend more on a more versatile smartwatch? Read on to find out what we think:
Which Should You Buy: Smartwatch or Fitness Tracker?
Smartwatches are becoming increasingly popular as they allow the watch to keep track of your fitness routines and monitor your heart rate. Whereas a fitness tracker measures the number of calories you burn, the watch simply measures the amount of time you are spending on the fitness routines. There is some confusion over whether the watches actually measure the number of calories you burn or simply the amount of time spent in your routine. While there is some truth to these ideas, there is also a big difference between the two. In this article, we will look at smartwatches as compared to fitness trackers and see what the benefits are of having one.
Timepiece vs. Tracking? The Differences and How To Choose
The biggest benefit of a smartwatch is that it is extremely simple to set up and use. Whereas the fitness tracker can be slightly more complicated, but generally the two are very similar. The only difference is that the watch can track more information than the equivalent fitness tracker and can store more data.
Also, the watch is very simple to use. You just wear it keeps track of everything. When you are done with a session the watch will store the data so that you can keep track of the calories burned, the distance you ran and the number of repetitions you did. A lot of the older generation of fitness trackers required you to have a really expensive computer in order to be able to store the data and the software to run it. Modern smartwatches are very much cheap and easy to set up and run.
Should I Buy A Fitness Tracker Or A Smartwatch? – Which?
Another benefit is that a smartwatch will allow you to get more feedback from your workout. A fitness tracker will rely on your pulse rate monitor, which may not work very well. The smartwatch will let you know exactly how effective your workout is by measuring the time it took for your heart rate to spike and then lowering it. If you are exercising hard, you will know if you are getting enough exercise.
Is a Tracker or Smartwatch Right for You?
Also, you will notice that you are finishing your workout much faster when using the watch than when you are working out with a fitness tracker. This is because the watch knows exactly how hard you are working and will make you stop sooner. As your fitness increases, the watch will give you more feedback so that you can make your workout more effective. There is a feedback mechanism inside the watch, which monitors the heart rate so that the watch can tell if you are working at an optimal intensity or not.
Finally, and this is probably my favourite benefit of the smartwatch – no more counting calories or keeping an eye on your fitness heart rate monitor. With the watch, you don’t have to carry around a bunch of devices. You can keep track of your goals and exercise. You can also talk to your friends or family about your progress. And you can use it while you are running or exercising. It’s a great companion, and it really makes exercising fun.
Which Is Worth Your Money?
In addition, the smartwatch will allow you to track your calorie intake so that you can plan meals that are right for you. If you’re a dieter, you can set up alarms so that you know when you need to eat a certain meal. The built-in calorie estimator will also allow you to calculate how many calories you are burning during your workout so that you can make dietary changes accordingly.
we have not even mentioned the Apple Watch. It certainly reigns supreme for features and is the gold standard for what a smartwatch can be and do, but at a high price. Our view is that the Apple Watch while fabulous isn’t really necessary for the average sports person, but it is certainly a glorious gadget!
Concluding – A Tale of Two Wearables: Fitness Tracker vs. Smartwatch
The smartwatch versus fitness tracker debate has raged on for a while now. While both are great products, it seems to boil down to personal preference. Which features are important to you? Which do you think you will use more? Do you need one device or two?
